Is Charlene Shipping Safe?
Absolutely safe! As long as your cargo has arrived at our warehouse, we guarantee its security. In our 20 years of operation, we have never lost a single package.
What shipping services does Charlene Shipping offer?
- Door-to-Door: Transportation from your doorstep to the recipient’s doorstep in the destination country. The cost includes road transport, export clearance, customs clearance, and ocean freight but does not include customs duties, overweight charges, or dimensional changes. If you require in-home pickup or delivery, additional labor fees apply (in-home pickup is only available in the Greater New York area, while in-home delivery is limited to Taiwan). Please email us for more details. (Pricing based on actual volume or weight).
- Door-to-Port: Transportation from your location to the destination port. Customers are responsible for import customs clearance and final delivery arrangements. (Pricing is based on cubic meters).
- Port-to-Port: Customers drop off their cargo at the designated port warehouse. We handle export clearance and ship it to the destination port. Import clearance can be handled personally or through a local customs broker. (Pricing is based on cubic meters).
Do you offer pickup services?
Yes! We provide free pickup services across the U.S., regardless of city or town. If you have any concerns, please call us at 347-699-6161.
How can I get a shipping quote from Charlene Shipping?
We do not provide quotes over the phone. International ocean shipping, especially door-to-door services, involves multiple cost factors that require calculation. Customers should fully pack their items, measure the box dimensions (length, width, height), and submit a quote request via email. New York customers should schedule a pickup in advance to allow for proper arrangements.
Can I pay for my shipment upon delivery?
No, all shipments require upfront payment before transport. Payment options include:
- If Charlene's drivers pick up your shipment, payment must be given to the driver upon pickup. A receipt will be issued, and both parties retain a copy.
- If a third-party service (FedEx/DHL/UPS) picks up your shipment, full payment must be made via online bank transfer before collection.
- If you ship your package to Charlene, an invoice will be emailed upon arrival, and payment must be made according to the instructions in the email.
- If you deliver your cargo to our New York office in person, payment must be made at the time of drop-off.
What kind of boxes should I use for packing?
You can use any sturdy cardboard box, but the total sum of its length, width, and height should not exceed 200 cm. Other than that, there are no strict requirements. The key is to use strong, double-walled cardboard boxes that can handle the weight without breaking. You may also use various types of containers, including old or damaged suitcases with broken wheels or handles. Recycled boxes are acceptable as well. If you plan to purchase boxes, we recommend double-walled boxes for added durability.
Suggested box sizes:
- Books: Boxes no larger than 13x13x17 inches.
- Clothing: 18x18x18-inch boxes, tightly packed to save space.
- For combined books and clothing: 16x16x16-inch boxes.
What information should I write on my box?
-
You can handwrite the following information on the top right corner of one side of the box (only one side), or download our “Maitou” template, fill it out, and print it to attach:
- The customer’s full name (written in the official language of the destination)
- Destination address (written in the official language of the destination)
- Destination phone number
- Box number: For example, if you have five boxes, please label them as 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5, 5/5. If you have only one box, please label it as 1/1.
- Each box should only have the information marked on one side of the box, not on multiple sides, to facilitate customs processing requirements.
Can I ship if my box is not double-walled?
- For customers shipping to Taiwan via sea freight, we strongly recommend using double-walled cardboard boxes. If the box is damaged or unfit for use when received at our warehouse, we will rebox it (at a cost of $10 per box).
- Customers shipping to China or other regions via sea freight must use double-walled cardboard boxes.
- Even if you have used double-walled cardboard boxes, it does not guarantee that your boxes are suitable for use. We operate on a mutual trust system with our customers. Essentially, the cost of our boxes, plus the labor fee for repacking, is a loss-making business for us. However, in order to ensure the quality of transportation, we must enforce this policy.
Do I need to write the contents of the package on the outside of the box?
Absolutely not. Only destination information should be written on the outside of the box (refer to the template), and the contents should never be listed.
Can I combine luggage with others to save on shipping costs?
To protect our customers’ interests, the company strongly advises against carrying unknown items for others or combining luggage with people you don’t know, as it may violate legal regulations and lead to unintended consequences. Our company strictly follows a one-person-one-order policy, offering door-to-door service with discounts for teachers, students, and general customers. This ensures that customers do not face any risks associated with combining orders with others.
When will my luggage arrive at the destination?
The shipping time by sea varies depending on the customs inspection process in each country. For example, it takes about two to three and a half months to Taiwan, and four to six and a half months to China (depending on Chinese customs, the time is not fixed). While our company is responsible for transportation, we cannot control the length of the transport time or the customs inspection time. Therefore, the above times are for reference only, and we are not responsible for any additional costs or legal liabilities resulting from delays in the shipment.
Can I change my contact information?
During the shipping process with Charlene Transport, any updates or changes to your information must be communicated via email to the New York office. When sending the email, please be sure to provide your full name, receipt, or customer number to help us retrieve your details. Please complete the update within one month after Charlene Transport receives your shipment. After one month, a $25 processing fee may apply, or changes may not be possible.

Can air shipments be paid for upon delivery (Cash on Delivery)?
Air shipments can only be scheduled for departure after the shipping fee and deposit have been fully paid.

Can you arrange pickup for the ground shipping?

How long does domestic shipping take to reach the destination?
The normal domestic transportation time is approximately 2-8 business days, depending on the zone, and may be delayed in case of weather-related issues.
Which is cheaper and safer for sending items from the U.S. to China, transshipment or direct mail?
FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS, and other international courier companies all offer direct mail services. For the first three, all packages and gifts are subject to tax. For general overseas students or business owners who are not sending personal luggage, they can make a simple customs declaration. Typically, items should be shipped about a week before leaving the U.S., and the declaration can be made at the first airport entry point in China. USPS is often regarded as the cheapest, but if you reside in the U.S., you may have heard of issues such as lost packages and poor transportation quality.
Compared to the four shipping methods mentioned above, Charlene Transport offers more competitive prices and safer service quality. (For transshipment) Simply put, sea freight shipments are directly collected at our warehouse, shipped in full containers via Evergreen Marine, and exported from the U.S. to our Taiwan warehouse before being distributed to major cities in China. With over 20 years of shipping experience, we are absolutely reliable. Charlene Transport’s direct air freight service works by contacting FedEx, UPS, and DHL directly in the U.S. to arrange air freight. By using these three carriers, our clients pay our contracted rates, which are less than one-third of the market price. Not only is it reliable, but it’s also cost-effective, giving you a real sense of value.

The shipping of U.S. purchases via sea freight, air freight, or direct mail to China will be regulated by China’s E-Commerce Law.
On January 1, 2019, China’s E-Commerce Law came into effect, directly impacting overseas personal purchasing.
2On January 1, 2019, China’s E-Commerce Law came into effect, directly impacting overseas personal purchasing. Previously popular items such as Australian milk powder, American luxury goods, bags, cosmetics, vitamins, health supplements, Korean skincare products, Japanese medicines, household hardware products, and bathroom equipment, among others, will be directly affected by the implementation of this E-Commerce Law. For example, products like milk powder, vitamins, and health supplements must have their product names and ingredient lists printed in Chinese, and these must be provided by the exporter or manufacturer.
Overseas purchasing, which has often operated in a gray area, has faced controversies regarding tax evasion and smuggling. In addition to cracking down on counterfeits, the E-Commerce Law primarily requires businesses to register and pay taxes. Ordinary individuals, such as those in social circles or on Weibo, who do not register or pay taxes, are particularly targeted by these regulations. This also extends to China Post’s direct mail packages. In the past, when items were sent via the post office, Chinese customs did not have data on the packages and could only conduct random inspections. However, once customs and the postal service share data, customs will have full control over the flow of postal items, including the sender’s information, the quantity of contents, and the frequency of shipments. In the future, personal shoppers may face tax audits and penalties for their shipments.
Which method is more cost-effective for mailing items, gifts, products, health supplements, or personal luggage to China from the United States?
When shipping items to China from abroad, the most important consideration should not be the price, but whether the items can safely clear customs and be handled by a reliable company that can also help with tax savings.
There are the following options for shipping items to China:
- General Chinese courier companies
- The downside is that they are mainly concentrated in Chinese communities, where the language is not an issue. However, these companies are usually smaller and less reliable, and their prices are often cheaper. When items are lost or issues arise at customs in China, they often lack proper solutions to resolve the problem.
- USPS (United States Postal Service)
- USPS is quite popular and convenient in the United States, but a few years ago, they discontinued sea freight services to China, and now only offer air freight. Of course, it is more reliable than the typical Chinese-owned courier companies mentioned above, but its prices are still relatively more expensive compared to our air freight rates.
- FedEx, UPS, DHL
- The downside is that the price is relatively higher, but it is fast, of good quality, safe, and reliable with guaranteed service.
- Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, China Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, and other airlines.
- General airlines are safe and reliable, but they only provide airport-to-airport transportation. The prices are affordable, but customers must handle downstream customs clearance, pick-up, and delivery services on their own.
- Charlene Air Freight
- Our company has signed agreements with FedEx, UPS, and DHL, offering Charlene Transport customers more favorable prices than the market rates of FedEx, UPS, and DHL (please refer to the air freight rate sheet on our website). The service is the same, but the prices are more affordable.
- In addition, Charlene Transport has large trucks to pick up goods and deliver them to the airport for various airlines. After arriving in the destination country, we handle customs clearance, cargo pickup, and delivery as a one-stop service. Compared to other options, using Charlene Transport for air freight is both safe and cost-effective.
